Brady Closing Floor Remarks on Coronavirus Relief Package

April 23, 2020 — Coronavirus Bulletin    — In Case You Missed It...    — Press Releases

WASHINGTON — The top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) delivered the following closing remarks in support of the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act.

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

“There is a guiding quote that I’ve kept as my computer screensaver for many years here in my office.

“It reads: ‘I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is: Try to please everybody.’

“This bill doesn’t try to please everybody. Or do everything.

“It focuses on replenishing small business loan programs that local businesses and their workers desperately need.

“It provides more funding for our hospitals and health care workers who man the front lines of this pandemic.

“And it commits more of your tax dollars to producing and distributing tests to communities that need them.

“Those are immediate, urgent priorities right now.

“We need to act, right now.

“Then, let’s continue to work together with President Trump to apply maximum pressure to the coronavirus, help businesses create safe, healthy workplace, jumpstart the economic rebound, and accelerate a return to work for those who are jobless or furloughed.

“I urge support.”
