Brady: Trump Price Transparency Rule “Major Step” for Consumer Rights

October 29, 2020 — Press Releases

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the Trump Administration finalized a rule that includes a requirement health insurers disclose the price of services to patients in advance of receiving medical care:

“Americans will never see lower health care costs until they know the prices. This is a major step in the direction of consumer rights, and I call on Congress to make this type of required transparency permanent.

“We should go further. The Ways and Means Committee is the only committee in Congress to approve legislation to end surprise medical bills while requiring consumers receive a true and honest cost estimate in advance of scheduled medical procedures. Congress should approve that bill before year’s end.

“I applaud President Trump, Secretary Azar, and HHS for advancing crucial price transparency for American families and local businesses.”
