Washington, D.C. – Today, a bipartisan group of Members of the House Ways and Means Committee, including Republican Committee Leader Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX), met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. The lawmakers discussed with President Kenyatta the U.S.-Kenyan economic relationship and expressed optimism toward building a stronger trade relationship.

Upon completion of the meeting, Rep. Brady released the following statement:

“I am highly encouraged by President Kenyatta’s dedication to reform and his enthusiasm today in our meeting about taking on the ambitious, comprehensive, and pro-growth policies included in U.S. trade agreements. I’m optimistic that under the leadership of President Trump, Ambassador Lighthizer, and President Kenyatta, we can begin the work to create a new, strong, reciprocal, and mature trade relationship between the U.S. and Kenya that moves us beyond the one-sided relationship we have now.  I believe that it is vital for the United States to establish more of a leadership presence on the African continent to create new markets for American goods and services — especially as China continues its drive to bring Africa into its orbit.”
