Camp Statement Following President’s Health Care Press Conference with Democrat Leaders

May 13, 2009 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement after President Obama met with Democrat committee chairmen and leadership to discuss health care:

“Yesterday may have been Yogi Berra’s birthday, but after that press conference I wondered if it wasn’t déjà vu all over again?  Where is the bipartisanship on health care?  Where is the change we can believe in?  The Speaker hasn’t even met with the Blue Dogs let alone Republicans.

“Health care reform is not a partisan issue. Health care reform is something that will affect every American; it is something every American needs. Republicans are ready to work with the Speaker, the Senate and the President to make health care reform a reality this year.  I can only hope that at some point the President uses his influence within his own Party and starts to make this a truly bipartisan effort.  If he does, then I think the House can produce health care reform by August.  If not, déjà vu all over again.”
