WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Chairman David Reichert (R-WA) announced today that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Miscellaneous Tariff Bill: Providing Tariff Relief to U.S. Manufacturers Through the New MTB Process.” The hearing will focus on the potential economic benefits to U.S. manufacturers and consumers of providing temporary tariff relief through the new MTB process on imported products not produced in the United States. The Committee is preparing legislation to implement recommendations made by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in its final report. The hearing will take place on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, in 1100 Longworth House Office Building, beginning at 2:00 PM.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Reichert said:

“Our hearing is the next step to cut unnecessary costs for American businesses and make them more competitive across the globe through the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill. Last year, Congress passed bipartisan legislation to create a new and transparent process for providing tariff relief to American manufacturers, in compliance with House rules. After a full, transparent investigation under the new process, the independent International Trade Commission recommends to Congress more than 1,800 petitions for inclusion in an MTB bill that will help our businesses, benefit our consumers, and grow our economy. This hearing provides an opportunity for us to discuss these important benefits in advance of imminent House consideration of the MTB to deliver tariff relief to our manufacturers.”
