House Republicans Praise Pro-Growth Tax Reform Blueprint

“A really bold and aggressive plan that ... would revolutionize the tax code.”
June 28, 2016 — Blog

House Republicans last week unveiled our Blueprint for reforming America’s tax code. As House Ways and Means Committee Chairman and Leader of the Tax Reform Task Force Kevin Brady (R-TX) explained:

“We propose a new tax code for the American people – a tax code built for growth: for the growth of paychecks, for the growth of local jobs and economy, and the growth of America’s economy.”

Known as “A Better Way For Tax Reform,” this Blueprint incorporates bold ideas from Members across the Republican Conference. Here’s what they’re saying about the plan:

“This is a really bold and aggressive plan that would essentially junk the current tax code and scrap the IRS as we know it. Measures like full expensing for business investment and the move toward a territorial tax system are exactly what the U.S. needs to create jobs, encourage start-up businesses, end the exodus of U.S. companies abroad, and regain our competitive edge. These reforms would revolutionize the tax code so that it would help propel the economy forward instead of hindering it at every turn.” — Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA)

“This plan is an answer to the American people’s greatest frustrations with taxes. It will finally update the tax code for the 21st Century and thoroughly reform it to meet the needs and expectations of today’s hardworking taxpayers. This plan will make taxes lower, fairer, simpler, and easier than ever to understand. In fact, with these reforms, most taxpayers will be able to file them on a form the size of a postcard.” — Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA)

“With this plan, we can take our founding principles—liberty, free enterprise, government by consent—and bring them to life in the 21st century. With this plan, we can turn this country around and expand opportunity for all Americans. This is what our country needs. This is a better way.” — Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Speaker of the House

“This blueprint focuses on three key principles. First, the tax code needs to encourage job creation and empower our employers to grow and succeed. Second, it should be simple and fair so that everyone can easily file their taxes. And third, the IRS needs to serve the American people—not the other way around.” — Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman

“This tax reform blueprint brings forward innovative ideas that can transform our economy, ease the heavy tax burdens on millions of American families, and help small businesses invest, grow, and create jobs in our local communities.  With its focus on the twin ideals of simplifying a broken tax code and promoting durable economic growth, this proposal provides the foundation for advancing once-in a generation, game-changing tax reform.” — Rep. Bob Dold (R-IL)

“The plan takes bold steps to allow our businesses large and small to compete and succeed in the global economy.  American companies with American workers leading the way in the global market and selling our products around the world is exactly what our economy needs to grow and create even more jobs here at home. Today, we’re starting down the path toward achieving that goal.” — Rep. David Reichert (R-WA), House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Chairman

“This plan includes many of the conservative ideas I have long advocated for, such as repealing the death tax, enabling Americans to complete their taxes on a form as simple as a postcard, and lowering the unacceptably high corporate tax rate that has sent too many American jobs offshore.” — Rep. Diane Black (R-TN)

“Two-thirds of Americans believe their children won’t have the same opportunities that they’ve had, and it’s up to Congress to do something. This new pro-growth plan advances serious tax reform that will create a fairer system for families and allow American businesses to compete with the rest of the world.” — Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC)

“It will boost our economy by making American workers far more competitive in a global environment, providing real incentives to do business here and make the world’s products here. This is just the start of a conversation about how we fix a broken tax code, but it demonstrates without a doubt that this majority is one of solutions and ideas for the future.” — Rep. Pat Meehan (R-PA)

“A ‘service first’ IRS, comes with new guidelines starting at the top with the administrator including term limits to their tenure. […] Under this plan, the IRS will not exist as it is today, and the redesign into distinct service units will serve the American people in a timely manner.” — Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-TX)

“[Our blueprint] will flatten out tax rates, encourage savings and investment, repeal the AMT and the Death Tax, and get America growing again, all in a revenue neutral way that takes into account its beneficial effects. Our current tax code is holding us back, but with this plan, America will experience a rebirth of opportunity and prosperity.” — Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), House Majority Leader

“The blueprint calls for crucial reforms such as repealing the death tax, dramatically reducing the paperwork required for individuals and families to file their taxes, and restructuring the IRS to make  service its first priority.”  — Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE)

“The proposal offers commonsense solutions that will reduce the tax burden on individuals, families and small business owners, while also introducing substantial reforms to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure accountability and a taxpayer focus.”  Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY)

“The House plan lays the groundwork for a new tax code that is flatter, fairer and simpler. It proposes a system so straightforward that Americans will be able to file their taxes on a postcard.” — Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX), House Republican Study Committee Chairman

“This Blueprint will serve as a marker for pro-growth reform that makes America more competitive, grows the economy, and creates jobs.  And by moving closer to a consumption-based tax model, which is widely regarded as more pro-growth than an income-based tax system, America will be more aligned with the rest of the developed world.” — Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH)

“It’s time that Washington stopped punishing small businesses and started helping them. […] This major tax reform proposal is an important first step towards finally achieving a pro-growth, job-creating tax code.” — Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), House Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee Chairman

“The IRS is out of control and needs to reined in and broken up. Everybody knows we need something new and now House Republicans have put forward a bold plan – a better way.” —Rep. Peter J. Roskam (R-IL), House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Chairman

“The Task Force on Tax Reform has put forward a serious proposal that should help us achieve the type of consensus we need to move a tax reform effort forward in a constructive manner. At the same time, it recognizes that the IRS as we know it has lost the trust of the American people and needs to be overhauled, broken down, and rebuilt so it is focused on a narrower mission.” — Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), House Budget Committee Chairman

“The Blueprint will make the tax code simpler, flatter, and fairer for hardworking taxpayers and families … The bottom line is this tax reform proposal will lead to bigger paychecks, more jobs, and economic opportunities for all Minnesotans.” — Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN)

“We’re here to offer a better way – a way of simplicity, certainty and fairness. By reducing the hours people spend filing, closing loopholes, and encouraging local work over outsourcing, we can help Americans feel more secure in their lives and in their futures.” — Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), House Republican Conference Chair

“To make it easier to create jobs and raise wages, the proposal offers to cut taxes on small businesses, creating a separate, low tax rate of 25 percent for many on Main Street. Because U.S. businesses currently have to pay the highest corporate tax rate in the world, it also lowers the corporate tax rate to make America a more competitive place to do business.”Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD)

“It is comprised of policies that are based on commonsense principles that everyone can agree on: rewarding hard work, stimulating growth, building a fairer, flatter tax code, and holding the IRS in check. . . . The American people deserve a better way—and that is exactly what House Republicans are going to deliver.” — Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS)
