President Trump: U.S. Policy is to Protect Patients With Pre-Existing Conditions

September 24, 2020 — Blog

Key Message: Despite Democrats’ claims, the GOP has made clear time and again that we stand with patients with pre-existing conditions. Whether or not the Supreme Court strikes down the Democrats’ hastily crafted, partisan law, President Trump has committed to protecting patients with pre-existing conditions, and his new executive order makes clear that this will be U.S. policy.

The Details:

  • President Trump issued an executive order stating that it is U.S. policy to provide protection to Americans with pre-existing conditions, regardless of whether or not the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional.
  • President Trump has also directed the HHS Secretary to work with Congress to pass a law protecting Americans from surprise billing. Ways and Means Republicans support this goal and have worked with Democratic counterparts on a fair proposal that protects patients and increases transparency and affordability.
