President’s Continued Regulatory Relief Is Helping Medical Providers Defeat COVID-19–Let’s Make It Permanent

April 30, 2020 — Blog    — Coronavirus Bulletin    — In Case You Missed It...    — Press Releases

Key points:

-The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued another round of regulatory relief today to speed up medical care for America’s seniors.

-The relief will remove paperwork burdens from providers’ practice, increase hospital capacity— including allowing physician-owned hospitals to expand— and make it easier for seniors to receive COVID-19 testing and telehealth services.

-Today’s guidance will also provide support for front-line health care workers by allowing hospitals to provide benefits like multiple daily meals or childcare services while medical staff are providing patient care.

Details:

The key to locking down the novel coronavirus is helping our medical providers offer care to patients without hassle. President Trump has led the charge in removing barriers to care that America’s seniors and their doctors often face, and today’s announcement continues that tremendous work. Seeing how this red tape relief has helped preserve access to care during the COVID-19 pandemic, Republicans will continue to work with the Administration and medical professionals to determine how we can continue to cut burdensome regulation to help patients get the care they need.

“Building on what was already extraordinary, unprecedented relief for the American healthcare system, CMS is seeking to capitalize on our gains by helping to safely reopen the American healthcare system in accord with President Trump’s guidelines,” CMS Administrator Seema Verma said.

The new rule changes take effect immediately. Medical providers and states do not need to take any additional steps in order to utilize today’s announcement.
